Treating a Scab with Steroids

Just wanted to take a moment to note that former Los Angeles Angels pitcher Brendan Donnelly (most recently a member of the Boston Red Sox) is named both in the Mitchell Report and on the list of those who crossed the picket line in the 1994 major league baseball strike.

  1. Cheated to get in.

    Cheated to stay.

Wasn’t Paul Byrd also a line-crosser? He was a Mets prospect but I’m pretty sure he played in 94

  2. Byrd is not on the list of line-crossers — the link is in the post. I’m not sure if it is definitive, but it looks definitive.

Take a closer look at the list. Most of the players were given fake names. I was covering the Dodgers at the time for Sportsticker/ESPN and don’t recall the fake name thing at all.

  3. You’re right. I was thinking of Rick Reed who was a contemporary of Byrd’s when he was a Mets prospect.

  4. Not on the list of cross-dressers? Donnelly is an embarrassment to Irish-Americans everywhere, and boy, is that hard to accomplish.
